O'Sullivan, Owls Crack Top 10 at UMD Invitational Meet

Westfield State senior Amy O'Sullivan (Greenfield, Mass.) posted a top-ten individual finish to pace Westfield State women's cross country at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational meet on Saturday.

O'Sullivan finished seventh with a time of 18:20 on the women's 5,000 meter course.

The Owls got a tight grouping from it's next four scoring runners with Kerin Johnson (Weymouth, Mass.)  66th in 20:07, followed by Kayla Whitcomb (Hubbardston, Mass./Quabbin) (68th), Mia McDonald (Westfield, Mass.) (79th), and Grace Poplawski (Rowe, Mass./Mohawk Trail)  (92nd) with just 21 seconds between the four.

Wellesley's Ari Marks was the individual champ in 17:38.

The Owls placed 10th in the team standings among 29 scoring teams.  WPI won the meet with 68 points, followed by Brandeis (83), Mount Holyoke (96) and Division II St. Anselm (149).  Westfield finished with 310 points.  

In the women's JV race the Owls placed ninth among the nine scoring teams.  Alison Downin (Hudson, Mass.) placed 41st in 21:59, while Molly Kennedy (West Springfield, Mass.) was 10 seconds behind in 44th.

Westfield will compete next Saturday at the Saratoga Springs (NY) Invitational meet.
