Westfield State's duo of Kayla Whitcomb (Hubbardston, Mass./Quabbin Regional HS) and Kerin Johnson (Weymouth, Mass.) earned the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference's runner and rookie of the week awards for their performances at the Trinity Bantam Invitational this past weekend.

Runner of the week Whitcomb was the first Owl across the finish line in 11th place with a time of 21:48 on the 5k course at Wickham Park in Manchester, Conn.

Rookie of the week Johnson placed 13th overall in a 5k time of 22:03 to help the Owls to a fourth place team finish.

Westfield State's cross country teams will be back in action on Saturday, September 18 when they travel to the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational meet.
