Bingham, Carnes Secure MASCAC Honors

Westfield State's women's volleyball won both of their games last week, beating both Elms College and Framingham State with scores of 3-1 in each contest. As a result of last week's success, teammates Sarah Bingham (Reno, Nev.) and Lauren Carnes (Westfield, Mass.) earned conference recognition as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive and Rookie of the Week.

Bingham was named the MASCAC Offensive Player of the Week for the Owls. Bingham had a total of 24 kills, eight service aces, six digs, and four blocks in their two games. In the Owls conference win against Framingham State, Bingham led the Owls with 14 kills, four service aces, three solo blocks, and a .367 hitting percentage to move the Owls to 2-0 in the MASCAC. She also recorded the second-most kills for the Owls with 14 aces and two digs in their non-conference win over Elms College.

On the season, the junior middle blocker is second on the Owls with 98 kills and leads the team with 34 blocks.

Carnes was named the MASCAC Rookie of the Week for after pacing the Owls attack with 26 kills in their two-game stretch last week. Carnes put together a team-high 15 kills and chipped in 11 digs in their win over Elms on Tuesday Night and added 11 kills in a road victory over Framingham on Friday.

For the year, Carnes has racked up 78 kills and has registered double-digit kills in each of her last four games

The Owls (3-14, 2-0 MASCAC) look to remain unbeaten in conference as they host Salem State from the Woodward Center in Westfield, Mass. at 7:00 P.M.
