Westfield Volleyball Drop Second Match of the Night Against Skidmore

Westfield, Mass. – The Westfield State volleyball team (0-2) dropped their second match of the day against Skidmore at the Springfield Invitational on Friday night. The Owls won the first set of the game (26-24) but proceeded to lose the next three sets (25-14, 25-16, 25-22).

In set one, with Skidmore at set point, the Owls rallied off three straight points to win the set, as senior Shawna Crowley (Billerica, Mass.) capped off the set with a point winning kill. Shawna Crowley led the Owls with fifteen kills on the match. Ashley Crowley (Billerica, Mass.) also delivered nine kills.

Julia Dangel-Garcia (Ashland, Mass.) collected 33 assists and Bridgette McAndrews (Longmeadow, Mass.) added to a productive night overall by registering 22 digs in game two. Senior Jess Haradon (Mansfield, Mass.) also contributed with 15 digs.

The Thoroughbreds (1-1) roared back after losing the first set, headlined by junior Chelsea Winegar (Basking Ridge, N.J.) who totaled a team high fifteen kills along with 25 digs in the match. Audrey Powell (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) finished strong in the fourth set, recording five of her eleven kills in the set. She also led the team in assists (26).

The Owls will continue play at the Springfield Invitational tomorrow with two matches against Keene State and Brandies University at 1:00 P.M. and 3:30 P.M.
