Westfield, Mass. – The Westfield State volleyball team lost the season opening game to Springfield College in straight sets (25-7, 25-13, 25-15) on Friday night at the Springfield Invitational. Senior Shawna Crowley (Billerica, Mass.) and sophomore Bridgette McAndrews (Longmeadow, Mass.) each had a team leading six kills. McAndrews also led the team with the most digs (9).

Owls sophomore Julia Dangel-Garcia (Ashland, Mass.) compiled 15 of the 16 total assists for Westfield.

Camryn Bancroft (Eastport, N.Y.) led the way for Springfield with 13 kills and Sara Labadorf (Huntersville, N.C.) added 29 assists.

Westfield State will continue in the Springfield Invitational tomorrow as the Owls play Keene State and Brandeis University at 1:00 P.M. and 3:30 P.M.
