WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State sophomore distance runner Shea Hamel (Longmeadow, Mass.) earned conference honors this past week as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference's Track Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Wheaton Pre Post-Season Meet on Saturday.

Hamel placed second in the 3000, posting a time of 10:56.11 and finished third in the one-mile run, setting a personal-best run by seven seconds with a time of 5:25.81 to highlight a few of the top times for Westfield this past Saturday.

The Longmeadow native reached these marks after an impressive MASCAC Championship meet where she received All-Conference honors in the 5000, winning the event with a time of 19:08.26. Hamel also placed second in the 3000 that afternoon, helping the women's track and field team hoist their first Indoor Championship title since the 2019-2020 season.

Westfield State will turn their sights to the New England Division III Championships this upcoming Friday and Saturday with Hamel and several Owls teammates taking part at Tufts University in Medford, Mass.
