Women’s Track and Field Compete at Wheaton Pre Post-Season Meet

WESTFIELD, Mass. – A pair of second place finishes from Shea Hamel (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Ariann LeCours (Haverhill, Mass.) topped the performance charts for the Westfield State women's track and field team as they competed at the Wheaton Pre, Post-Season Meet from Norton, Mass. on Saturday afternoon.

Hamel placed second in the 3000, posting a time of 10:56.11. She also earned a third-place mark in the one-mile run, setting a personal-best run by seven seconds with a time of 5:25.81.

LeCours also set a personal-best record in the 1000, cutting four seconds off her previous top time by registering a mark of 3:14.62.

Fresh off of a MASCAC Championship in the 3000, sophomore Julianne Kelly (Natick, Mass.) took off 20 seconds from her previous best time in the event, racing to a third-place finish in the event by crossing the tape in 11:08.98.

Molly Kennedy (West Springfield, Mass.) gathered a top five mark in the 1000, with a time of 3:21.18. Bronwyn Pinsly added a sixth-place toss in the shot put at a distance of 9.93 meters. Emily Ottomaniello (Agawam, Mass.) added fourth in the high jump with a leap of 1.41 meters.

Qualifying Westfield State track and field athletes will compete in the New England Division III Championships beginning on Friday, February 23.
