Hamel, LeCours Win Individual Events at Wesleyan Invite

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State sophomores' Shea Hamel (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Brynne LeCours (Haverhill, Mass.) each secured individual event victories as the women's track and field team competed at the Wesleyan January Invite from Wesleyan, Conn. on Saturday afternoon.

Hamel paced the field in the 5000, posting a time of 18:56.38 to secure the top spot. B. LeCours edged out a pair of runners to cross the finish line first in the 800 with a time of 2:35.43.

Sophomore Eliza Lee (Walpole, Mass.) leaped to a third-place mark in the triple jump at a distance of 10.56m. She also collected a fifth-place tally in the 400 with a time of 1:04.89.

Paige Moroney (Sterling, Mass.) qualified for the finals in a deep field of 36 runners in the 60-meter dash, recording fourth in the finals with a sprint time of 8.33.

Devin Whalen (Marblehead, Mass.) added a pair of fifth-place finishes in the 200 (28.07) and 60-meter hurdles (9.96).

In the 1000, Ariann LeCours (Haverhill, Mass.) and Kerin Johnson (Weymouth, Mass.) placed fifth and sixth with LeCours coming in at 3:23.27 and Johnson close behind in 3:27.09.

Westfield State will participate in the Pioneer Fast Trax Invitational on Saturday, February 3 before preparing for the MASCAC Indoor Championship meet on February 10.
