Hamel, Whalen Win Events at Coast Guard Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass.  –    Westfield State University's women's indoor track and field team had a pair of event winners as the team started off second-semester competition at the Coast Guard Academy Invitational in New London, Conn. on Saturday.

Devin Whalen had a strong day as she won the 55 hurdles in a time of 9.60 seconds,  placed third in the 200 in 29.04, and sixth in 55 meter dash in 7.90. 

The Owls' Shea Hamel won the 3000 meters in 11:07.44, with teammate Julianne Kelly fifth in 11:55.25

Kerin Johnson took fourth place in the 800 meters in 2:45.27.

Emily Ottomaniello posted a trio of fourth place finishes in the high jump, long jump, and triple jump.

No team scoring was kept at the meet.

The Owls will next compete at the Massasoit Invitational meet at Springfield College on Saturday, January 20.
