Women’s Track and Field Compete at Trinity Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Westfield State women's track and field team finished sixth out of nine teams in the Trinity College Invitational from Hartford, Conn. on Saturday.

Sophomore Vicky Marin (Greenfield, Mass.) collected two top-three finishes in the high jump (1.57m) and long jump (4.99m). She also posted a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (15.99) and sixth in the triple jump (10.83m).

First-year jumper Eliza Lee (Walpole, Mass.) tallied two top-five tallies in the triple jump (11.01m) and long jump (4.88m).

Mia McDonald (Westfield, Mass.) qualified for the New England Division III Championships in the 3000m steeplechase by recording a time of 11:55.42 in the event while also speeding pass her previous best time by 31 seconds.

Other notable performances on the track were from junior Paige Moroney (Sterling, Mass.) who earned a third-place mark in the 100m dash by crossing the tape in 12.67. She also placed seventh in a deep field of 46 runners at the 200m with a time of 26.33.

In the 1500m, all nine Owls athletes set personal-best times with Molly Kennedy (West Springfield, Mass.) and Shea Hamel (Longmeadow, Mass.) finishing top ten in the event. Tealei Chandonnet (Dracut, Mass.), Justine Pickard (Westwood, Mass.), Rebecca Patel (Belchertown, Mass.), Alison Downin (Hudson, Mass.), Amanda Walsh (Needham, Mass.), Rebecca Grome (Franklin, Mass.) and Erin Vasu (Longmeadow, Mass.) rounded off the Owls runners that brought home personal-best times.

More personal-best times came through in the 800m from Brynne LeCours (Haverhill, Mass.), Ariann LeCours (Haverhill, Mass.) and Sabrina Egan (Quincy, Mass.) with Brynne leading the group with a seventh place finish (2:28.89).

Grace Poplawski (Rowe, Mass.) set a PR of her own in the 5000m while also delivering a top-five finish in the event by crossing the tape in 19:40.56.

Springfield College (192.5 points) won the meet followed by Coast Guard (140.5) and Wesleyan (111.5).

The MASCAC Championship meet awaits the Owls for their next meet on Saturday, April 29 from Fitchburg, Mass.
