Marin, Kennedy, McDonald Secure Event Wins for Women’s Track and Field

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State women's track and field athletes' Vicky Marin (Greenfield, Mass.), Molly Kennedy (West Springfield, Mass.), and Mia McDonald (Westfield, Mass.) each secured individual event victories as the women's track and field team competed at the Wheaton Invite from Wheaton College on Saturday afternoon.

Marin leaped her way to a first-place mark at the high jump at a distance of 1.61m. She also earned a pair of top four placements in the triple jump (3rd – 10.67m) and the 60-meter hurdles (4th – 9.50).

Kennedy raced to the finish line in the mile run, out-pacing teammate Shea Hamel (Longmeadow, Mass.) by .22 hundredths of a second to win the event. Ariann LeCours (Haverhill, Mass.) finished third in the mile, giving the Owls the top three runners in the race.

McDonald distanced herself from the rest of the field in the 3000 with a time of 10:33.52.

Paige Moroney (Sterling, Mass.) posted strong results in the 60-meter dash and 200. She placed third in a field of 39 runners in the 200, earning a time of 27.06. She finished fourth in another deep 29-athlete field in the 60-meter dash, posting a time of 8.12.  

Eliza Lee (Walpole, Mass.) recorded top five finishes in the long jump (5th – 4.87m) and the triple jump (4th – 10.53m). Brynne LeCours (Haverhill, Mass.) also received a fourth-place tally in the 800 with a time of 2:33.48.

Westfield State will prepare for the New England Division III meet which begins on Friday, February 24 from Boston, Mass.
