Owl Women Win Nine Events, Meet Title at Westfield State Invitational

The Westfield State women's track and field team won nine of the 16 events as they held serve, winning the Westfield State Invitational meet at Smith College on Saturday afternoon.

Vicky Marin led the way for the Owl women with three event wins and 38 total points, as she came home first in the 60 hurdles in 9.56 seconds, and won the long jump (4.84  meters ) and the triple jump (10.24 meters).  Marin placed second in the high jump with a top mark of 1.56 meters.

Paige Moroney picked up a pair of wins for Westfield State, winning the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.17 seconds and the 200 meters in 27.35.

Mia McDonald won the 3000 meters in a back and forth battle with Keene State's Grace Furlong.  Furlong stalked McDonald through the early stages of the race, and grabbed a short lead with several laps to go, but McDonald took over again in the final lap to with with a time of 10:40.58, nearly three seconds ahead of furlong.

Tealei Chadonnet won the mile in 5:37.13, leading an Owls sweep of the points as Justine Pickard, Alison Downin and Amanda Walsh completed the order of finish.

Rayna Consiglio held off three competitors in the 600, winning in 1:52.41

Westfield's 4x200 relay held sway as a well, as the crew of Mackenzie Burgoyne, Moroney, Becca Welch and Emily Ottomaniello won in 1:53.20

Westfield finished with 160 points, easily out-pointing Fitchburg (82.50), Umass Boston (52.50) Worcester State (50) and Keene State (22).

Westfield State will next compete at the Wheaton Invitational in Norton, Mass. next Saturday, February 18.
