McDonald Paces Women’s Track and Field in Massasoit Classic

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State graduate student Mia McDonald (Westfield, Mass.) earned a first-place mark in the 3000m as the women's track and field team competed in the Massasoit Classic from Springfield College on Saturday.

McDonald distanced herself from the rest of the field by 33 seconds, crossing the line first with a time of 10:41.79. Three other Owls placed within the top five of the event with first-year Shea Hamel (Longmeadow, Mass.) following McDonald by finishing second at a time of 11:14.70. Sophomores' Molly Kennedy (West Springfield, Mass.) and Grace Poplawski (Rowe, Mass.) followed with fourth (11:26.52) and fifth place (11:36.41) marks.

The Owls also posted strong contirbutions in the 800m run, securing three top-five tallies. Brynne LeCours (Haverhill, Mass.) was the first Owl to finish as she secured third place (2:33.26). Rayna Consiglio (Worcester, Mass.) followed closely behind in fourth place (2:42.73) then Rebecca Grome (Franklin, Mass.) crossed the line fifth with a mark of 2:53.94.

Sophomore Rebecca Patel (Belchertown, Mass.) secured a second-place finish in the 5000m by posting a time of 21:09.27.

Junior Paige Moroney (Sterling, Mass.) added a pair of fifth-place marks in the 60-meter dash (8.29) and the 200-meter (27.21).

First-year Tealei Chandonnet (Dracut, Mass.) rounded up the top five finishes on the afternoon, contributing a fourth-place finish in the mile run (5:51.19).

Westfield State will be back at it next weekend as the Owls travel to Middletown, Conn. for the Wesleyan Invite at Wesleyan University on Saturday, January 21.
