WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State graduate student Mia McDonald (Westfield, Mass.) and first-year Brynne LeCours (Haverhill, Mass.) each earned conference recognition this past week with McDonald receiving the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week while LeCours was named the conference Rookie of the Week.

McDonald placed fifth in the mile at a time of 5:39.01 at the Coast Guard Invitational and ran a leg of the Owls distance medley relay that is currently fifth on the NCAA Division III performance list at 13:33.92.

McDonald has found continued success across multiple different distance events for the Owls as she placed first in the 3000-meter run in the opening meet at Springfield College on December 3, then followed with another top mark in the 5000m at the Utica Holiday Classic.

LeCours finished first in the 1000m at a time 3:22.22, crossing the tape five seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. The first-year runner has put together a solid rookie campaign, finishing third in the mile run at the Springfield Invitational earlier in the season.

The Coast Guard Invitational marked the first meet Westfield participated in since December 10, and the Owls will be back in action on Saturday, January 21 as the Owls travel back to Springfield College for the Massasoit Classic.
