Women’s Track and Field Opens Indoor Season at Springfield College Invite

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State sophomore Vicky Marin (Greenfield, Mass.) recorded second-place finishes in the long jump, triple jump, and 60-meter hurdles as the Owls opened the 2022-23 indoor season at the Springfield College Invite on Saturday.

Marin posted a mark of 5.11 meters in the long jump and followed with another strong performance in the triple jump, recording a leap of 10.99 meters on her final attempt to move into second for the event. Marin also registered a time of 9.49 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, giving her three second-place finishes on the afternoon.

Graduate student Mia McDonald (Westfield, Mass.) paced the field in the 3000-meter run, distancing herself from second place by five seconds by crossing the finish line at a time of 11:02.45.

Westfield also placed five of the top six finishers in the mile run with Ariann LeCours (Haverhill, Mass.) and Brynne LeCours (Haverhill, Mass.) leading the group of Owls with second (5:38.50) and third (5:39.51) place finishes in the event.

Other notable performances from the meet came from sophomore Rayna Consiglio (Worcester, Mass.) and first-years' Eliza Lee (Walpole, Mass.) and Shea Hamel (Longmeadow, Mass.). Consiglio registered a fourth-place finish in the 600-meter run, crossing the line at a time of 1:52.74. Lee began her collegiate career with a pair of fifth place tallies in the 400 meter (1:05.65) and the triple jump (10.18m). Hamel recorded two fifth place marks at a pair of distance events in the mile and the 3000 meters.

The Owls wrapped up the afternoon in the 4x400 meter relay where the quartet of Consiglio, Savannah Campbell (Walpole, Mass.), Paige Moroney (Sterling, Mass.) and B. LeCours earned a fifth-place finish by crossing the tape in a combined 4:41.56.

Westfield State will next compete at the Pioneer Winter Classic on Saturday, December 10 from Utica College in Utica, N.Y.
