O'Sullivan, Marin Win MASCAC Titles, Owl Women Second at MASCAC Championship

Westfield State senior Amy O'Sullivan (Greenfield, Mass.) added two more MASCAC titles to her mantle, and first year Vicky Marin (Greenfield, Mass.) scored 37.5 points to help Westfield State to a second place team finish at the 2022 MASCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Bridgewater State University on Saturday.

O'Sullivan pulled a distance double for the Owls, topping the 10,000 meters easily in 40:31.90, then adding the 5,000-meter title in 18:52.63.

The Owls scored deep in the 5,000 meters as Kayla Whitcomb (Hubbardston, Mass./Quabbin) placed second in 19:07.72, with Grace Poplawksi (Rowe, Mass.)  fifth and Lauren Flynn sixth.

Marin won the triple jump 11.11 meters, one of seven events she competed in on the day – earning points in each.   She placed third in high jump (1.55,), second in long jump (5.26m), third in the 100 hurdles, fourth in the 400 hurdles, and was part of the Owls 4x100 relay which placed second, and finally part of the 4x400 relay where the Owls were third.

Westfield placed second in the team scoring with 136.5 points, easily outdistancing third-place finisher Worcester Stat e (91) .  Host Bridgewater won the meet with 236.5 points.  Six teams competed.

Other notable performances for Westfield included Kerin Johnson's second in the 1500 in 5:08 33, where the Owls also got points from Whitcomb, Molly Kennedy and Ariann Lecours as they finished 4-6.

Johnson added a fourth place in the 800 meters, and Paige Moroney placed fourth in 100.  Owls senior Mia McDonald brought home a second-place finish in the 3000 steeplechase.

The meet begins championships season for the Owls, as qualified athletes will head to the New England Division III Championship meet at Williams College next weekend.
