Marin Earns Three Top Five Finishes to Pace Owls at Trinity Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State first-year Vicky Marin (Greenfield, Mass.) finished top five in three separate events as the Owls placed eighth at the Trinity College Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Marin set personal records in both the 100-meter hurdles and the triple jump, where she finished second in both events. She crossed the finish line at a time of 15.56 and leaped a distance of 10.97 meters. Marin also had a fifth place finish in the long jump at a distance of 5.02 meters.

Senior Mia McDonald (Westfield, Mass.) was second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, earning a time of 12:58.52.

Distance runner Kayla Whitcomb (Hubbardston, Mass.) followed her Jerry Gravel-winning 5,000 meter run with a fifth place finish in the event at a time of 19:31.57. Grace Poplawski (Rowe, Mass.), Molly Kennedy (West Springfield, Mass.), and Becca Grome (Franklin, Mass.), and Lauren Flynn (Upton, Mass.) all had strong performances in the 5,000 as each set a new personal-best record.

Sophomore Paige Moroney (Sterling, Mass.) set a personal best time in the 100-meter dash to earn a seventh place finish with a time of 12.87. She also set a second PR on the day at the 200 meter (26.57).

The personal best records didn't stop there for the Owls, as Mackenzie Burgoyne (Natick, Mass.), Rayna Consiglio (Worcester, Mass.), Becca Welch (Walpole, Mass.), and Savannah Campbell (Walpole, Mass.) all set PRs in their respective events.

Westfield State will now prepare for the MASCAC Championship meet which will be held next Saturday, April 30, from Bridgewater State University.
