WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State first-year Vicky Marin (Greenfield, Mass.) received conference recognition this past week, earning the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week after winning two individual events over the weekend.

Marin won the 100 meter hurdles and the long jump events as the Owls competed at the Wesleyan Spring Classic in Middletown, Connecticut on Saturday afternoon.

Marin led the 100-meter hurdles field with a time of 15.97 while jumping to a mark of 5.18 meters to claim first place in both events. She also earned a score of 1.58 meters in the high jump, ranking her third in the event. On top of her individual successes, Marin anchored the 4x100 meter relay team that placed fourth out of eight teams.

The Wesleyan Spring Classic marked the first outdoor track and field event of the season for the Owls as Marin continued to build off of an impressive indoor season in which she claimed a spot on the All-Region Team for her performance in the 60-meter hurdles. She placed a season high time of 9.44 for this event at the Pre-Post Season Meet at Wheaton College, and a time of 9.51 in the 2022 MASCAC Championship, both were good for second place. Marin also had a first-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles at the Coast Guard Academy Winter Invitational with a time of 9.33.

Westfield State will travel to UMass Dartmouth this upcoming Saturday to compete in the Corsair Classic.
