Westfield State senior Amy O'Sullivan (Greenfield, Mass.) wrapped up the indoor track and field season with an 18th place finish in the 5,000 meters at the NCAA Division III championships at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Friday afternoon.

O'Sullivan entered the meet seeded 19th, with a best time of 17:26.94 set last week at the Tufts Last Chance meet.

O'Sullivan ran a time of 18:03.20 today, moving up one spot from her pre-race seeding.

The race had a fast pace, as NCAA Cross Country Champion Kassie Parker, from Loras (IA) College set a fast pace early, eventually dueling with Wellesley's Ari Marks for several laps, before Parker extended her lead late to win the race in 16:05.97, shattering the NCAA Division 3 record set by Ithaca's Taryn Cordani in 2017 by more than 14 seconds.

O'Sullivan trailed the hot pace early, settling around 18th place as three distinct packs of runners formed during the race, with Sullivan running with cover in the third group.

For O'Sullivan it was her second trip to a national championship meet this year.  She placed 66th at the cross country championship meet in Louisville in November.
