WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State senior distance runner Amy O'Sullivan (Greenfield, Mass.) set a personal record time in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:26.94 at the Tufts National Qualifying Meet at Tufts University on Saturday afternoon.

O'Sullivan placed second in the event, as her personal best time moves her up to 22nd in Division III overall for the event. She broke her previous record set on February 11 at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational where she crossed the finish line at a time of 17:38.89.

In order to qualify for the NCAA track and field indoor track and field championships, runners need to place within the top 20 times in the nation for those that accept to compete in the 5,000 meters.

O'Sullivan finds herself squarely on the bubble for selection into the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championship meet, and will await her positioning in the 5,000 meters as the official NCAA rankings will be released tomorrow at 7:00 P.M. on NCAA.com. The championship will be held on March 11-12 at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
