McDonald Sisters Win Events at Gravel Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. –  Westfield State University had four event winners, including sisters Moira and Mia MacDonald, as the Owls hosted the 2021 Jerry Gravel Invitational Meet at the Gravel Track on Saturday morning.

Junior Moira McDonald (Westfield, Mass.) topped the 400 meters in a time of 1:02.20, while Mia McDonald (Westfield, Mass.) won the 3,000 steeplechase for the second straight meet, in a personal best time of 12:26.88.

Junior Amy O'Sullivan (Greenfield, Mass.) crossed the line first in the 5,000 meter event in 18:10.46, and senior Mackenzie Connor (Chelmsford, Mass.) won the pole vault with a height of 2.75m.

Other top performers for the Owls included Lina Lark, (Westfield, Mass./Pope Francis) who took second long jump (5.00 m), Rachel Farley (Paxton, Mass./Wachusset) placed third in the 800 meters.

Becca Rokne (Douglas, Mass.) placed fourth in the 1500 (5:23.21) while Carly Smith (Boxford, Mass./Tahanto) finished fourth in the 100 hurdles.

The meet was split into two sections, with the women competing in the morning, and the men's meet following in the afternoon due to pandemic protocols to de-densify the event. 

No team scoring was kept for the meet, which served as a preview for the MASCAC Championship meet, which is scheduled to be at Westfield on May 1.
