WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State senior Lauren Gilderdale (Great Barrington, Mass) has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week for the third consecutive week and fourth time this season.
Gilderdale won both the shot put and weight throw events at the Wesleyan Invitational in Middletown, Connecticut. Gilderdale posted a throw of 12.55m (41' 02.25") in the shot put followed by a 16.78m (55' 0.75") heave in the weight throw. Gilderdale currently ranks in the top 25 in the shot put and 10thin the weight throw on the NCAA Division 3 performance list.
Gilderdale also was one of several athletes who competed in the NEICCCA All-New England track and field championships on Friday, January 31. Competing against primarily Division 1 and 2 athletes, Gilderdale just missed qualifying for the finals by finishing 10thin the 20-lb weight throw with a toss of 16.02m (52' 06.75").
The Owls' men's and women's track and field teams will be back in action Friday, February 7 at the Coast Guard Invitational in New London, Connecticut.
