Gilderdale Leads Owls at Wesleyan Invitational, Phair Competes at New Englands

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Senior Lauren Gilderdale (Great Barrington, Mass.) and sophomore Grace Phair (Stockbridge, Mass.) headlined the Westfield State women's track and field performances on Saturday, as the Owls competed at the Wesleyan Invitational and New England All-Division meets.

Lauren Gilderdale had a great afternoon winning both the shot put and weight throw events. She matched her 17.04-meter mark in the weight throw previously set at Springfield College and currently ranks ninth in the nation for division III. Gilderdale also ranks 23rd in the nation in the women's shot put.

Junior Lina Lark (Westfield , Mass.) topped the women's long jump with a mark of 4.90 meters and senior Maggie DaMotta (Windsor Locks, Conn.) took first in the 600-meter dash.

In the New England All-Divisions held at the Reggie Lewis Center, sophomore Grace Phair placed 24th in the women's 3000-meter run in a time of 10:26.27. Phair currently sits at 20th in division III in the event. Amy O'Sullivan (Greenfield, Mass.) also competed in the All-Divisions as both her and Phair hit their second-best times in their respective events. Both Phair and O'Sullivan were the only DIII competitors on the women's side.

Both the Owls men's and women's track and field teams get back to action next weekend at the Coast Guard Invitational held in New London, Connecticut.
