WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Kait Kelly (Hampden, Mass.) and Shannon Fitzsimmons (Andover, Mass.) each won three individual events as Westfield State fell to Mount Holyoke 160-139 Saturday afternoon at Mount Holyoke College.
Kelly won the 50-yard backstroke, 50-yard freestyle, and the 100-yard backstroke, scoring 27 points for the Owls. Fitzsimmons took first in the 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly, and the 500-yard freestyle also scoring 27 points for Westfield State.
Junior Samantha Nemivant (Scottsdale, Ariz.) took first in both diving events for the Lyons, scoring 18 points in the process.
Both teams were neck and neck until the final two events, when senior Bri Groves (Reston , Va.) won the 100-yard IM to put the Lyons on top for good.
Westfield State continues their year on Saturday as they host Smith College at 1:00 p.m.
