Owls Athletics to Host Triple-Header Tuesday

WESTFIELD, Mass. – For the first time this year, Westfield State Athletics will be hosting a triple header on Tuesday, September 26th featuring women's soccer at 4:00pm, then field hockey and women's volleyball at 7:00pm.

Women's soccer kicks off the tripleheader, hosting the Pioneers of Smith College at 4:00pm at Alumni Field. The Owls stand at the top of the MASCAC having the most goals scored in the conference and winning their first two conference game so far against Mass Maritime (5-0) and Worcester State (3-0).

Owls' forwards Delaney Parker (Orange, Mass.) and Kiana Muratsuka (Mililani, Hawaii) currently rank at the top of the MASCAC in both goals and points with Muratsuka (6-2-14) leading the league in goals and Parker (5-4-14) leading in assists. Smith college currently has a record of 2-2-2 coming off of a 3-1 loss to MIT over the weekend.  

The next game on Alumni field at 7:00 pm is field hockey (3-6) as they continue conference play against the Vikings of Salem State. The Owls have split a pair of conference games thus far, defeating Fitchburg State in their last game by a score of 6-0.

Sophomore Kaleigh Murphy (Pembroke, Mass) currently leads the MASCAC in goals with five and is tied for the league-lead in points at 11. Salem State (3-4) enters the contest with a 2-0 record in the MASCAC after a pair of victories over Bridgewater State and Framingham State. Vikings goalkeeper Izzy Mosley stands at the top of the MASCAC with a commanding lead having recorded 85 saves in seven games played.

Women's Volleyball opens up conference play where they will host MCLA at the Woodward Center at 7:00 pm. The Owls currently have a record of 0-12 while MCLA enters the match on a six-game winning streak, holding a record of 8-2.

Senior Bridgette McAndrews (Longmeadow, Mass.) leads the team with 90 kills and is second on the squad with 164 digs. The Owls are currently averaging 7.35 assists per set and 7.89 kills per set. The Trailblazers defeated Sage College in four sets with Chloie Garber leading the way with ten kills. She leads MCLA with 95 kills on the year.
