Rennich, Cochran Headline Six Owls All-Conference Selections

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State graduate student Jenn Rennich (Bedford, Mass.) was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year and sophomore Jaida Cochran (Middleboro, Mass.) was awarded the Defensive Player of the Year as the Owls placed six players on the 2022 MASCAC All-Conference Teams.

After winning their second consecutive MASCAC Championship, Rennich and Cochran were joined by sophomore forward Delaney Parker (Orange, Mass.) and senior midfielder Kylee Murphy (Haverhill, Mass.) on the MASCAC All-Conference First Team. Senior midfielder Marissa Jacob (Holden, Mass.) and senior defender Jenna Hurlburt (Kingston, Mass.) were each named to the All-Conference Second Team as the Owls led all teams with six all-conference selections.

Rennich, who has now been named to the All-Conference First Team in all four seasons of her career, secured the MASCAC Offensive Player of the Year after finishing tied for seventh in the nation with 23 goals and eighth in Division III in points (53). Her seven assists ranks third in the conference. Rennich has put together a historic career at Westfield State as she tops the program ranks in assists (45) and points (145). She has also tallied 50 career goals in 78 games played over her four years, which places Rennich one goal behind Sandy Pinto who set the record back in 1997. Last season, she was named a College Sports Communicators (Formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-American.

In her first two seasons with the Owls, Cochran has been named to the All-Conference First Team on both occasions, and has taken her level of play a step further this year, earning the conference Defensive Player of the Year award. The Middleboro native has anchored an Owls defensive unit that allowed the fewest goals against (16), holding opponents to under one goal per game (0.84) on the year.

Parker was recognized for the second time in as many seasons on the All-Conference First Team after being named the Conference Offensive and Rookie of the Year last year. Parker flashed her facilitating skills this year after leading the nation in goals a season ago. She led the MASCAC in assists (10) while also scoring the second most goals (15) in the conference behind Rennich. In her first two seasons with the Owls, Parker has delivered eye-popping numbers with a total of 46 goals and 18 assists. She is already one of seven players in program history to top the 100-point plateau as she has recorded 110 points in 40 games played.

Murphy was selected to the All-Conference First Team after flashing her two-way ability in the midfield for the Owls. She is third on the team in goals (four) and points (11).

Jacob and Hurlburt round off the Owls selections, both placing on the All-Conference Second Team. Both players fronted a senior-laden back end that did not allow a goal in 11 of the Owls 19 games played this season. Jacob was third on Westfield with four assists while Hurlburt added two assists.

Westfield enters the NCAA Tournament for the ninth time in program history and the second consecutive season. The Owls will travel to Scranton University in Scranton, Pennsylvania to face Emerson College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, November 12 at 1:00 P.M.
