Westfield State goalkeeper Julia Robak made 14 saves, but that wasn't enough as Western New England squeezed past Westfield, 1-0 in a nonconference women's soccer match on Saturday afternoon in Springfield, Mass.

Alison VanVolkenburg's penalty kick in the 32nd minute proved to be both the game-winner and the lone score of the match. She fired to the rigt side of the goal to beat Robak and stake the Golden Bears to a 1-0 lead.

WNE dominated the stat sheet with 30 total shots to the Owls eight, and 12 corners to Westfield's three.

Delaney Parker got off four shots to lead Westfield's offensive efforts.

Westfield is now 7-3-1 overall, while WNE improves to 6-4-1.

The Owls will be back in conference play this Friday evening with a match at Mass Maritime Academy.
