WESTFIELD, Mass. –   First-year midfielder Morgan Berthiaume's (Webster, Mass./Douglas HS) goal in the fifth minute proved to be all the offense Westfield State would need, as the Owls shut out the US Coast Guard Academy 1-0 on the second day of the Drew Fall Soccer Classic at Madison, N.J.

Westfield finishes the tournament 1-0-1 and is now 2-1-1 on the season.  Coast Guard took its first loss if the season and is 3-1 overall.

Berthiaume found the net with a shot from the top of the box, 4:15 in to the match.  The goal was the first of Berthiaume's career at Westfield.

Westfield got three saves from senior goalkeeper Lauryn Davis (Templeton, Mass./Quabbin) to preserve the win.

The Owls outshot the Academy 28-8 on the afternoon, and had a 13-3 advantage in corner kicks, but couldn't get an insurance goal across the line.   Bears goalkeeper Emily Scharnitzky made nine saves.

Westfield will be back in action at home on Wednesday, hosting Keene State with a 7 p.m. kickoff at Alumni Field.
