WESTFIELD, Mass. –   The University of Southern Maine's Catriona Gould scored one goal and one assist as the Huskies blanked Westfield State, 5-0 in a non-conference women's soccer match at Alumni Field on Wednesday night.

Southern Maine moves to 3-0 on the season while Westfield State is now 1-1.

The Huskies got six saves in goal from Breanna Atwood as she earned the shutout.

Southern Maine used rapid transition in the attacking game to put pressure on the Owls defense all night.

The first USM goal came just 3:21 into the contest as Ciera Berthiaume swung a corner kick from the left corner into the back post upper 90 for the goal, over the outstretched arms of Westfield State goalkeeper Julia Robak.

The Huskies took a 2-0 lead before the half as Riley Reitchel fired a hard cross from the right side that Robak came out to deflect away, but the ball went to the foot of Emma Forgues who slotted it in the back of the net in the 29th minute.

Shots were even at 8-8 at the end of one half, but the Huskies made more of their scoring chances, and attacked aggressively with six offsides flags in the first half alone.

In the second half, Eliza Roy, Gould and Ella Boucher all tallied for the final margin.

USM held a 19-13 advantage in total shots, and a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.

Westfield got three saves each in goal from Robak and Sarah Fuller.

Westfield State will travel to Madison, New Jersey this weekend to play in the Drew Fall Classic tournament, kicking off against Kean (NJ) University on Saturday.
