Owls Splash Past WestConn, 11-7

WESTFIELD, Mass.  –  On a night where the weather was more fit for ducks than Owls, Westfield State's women's lacrosse team held off Western Connecticut, 11-7 in a non-conference game at the Westside Complex Stadium in Danbury, Conn.

Megan Bailey led Westfield with four goals, and Natalie DeMaio and Mykenzie Black each added three goals for the Owls.  Arianna Andresen dished out four assists.

The Owls led the Wolves 7-5 at the half, and WestConn got the opening goal of the second half from Alexa Riggio to trim it to a one-goal margin. From there, the Owls scored the next four to put the game away, getting back to back tallies from Black at the 5:23 mark of the fourth quarter to lead 11-6.

Westfield got seven saves in goal from Kara Banagan

WestConn was led by two goals from Vicky Gracy.  The Wolves' Molly Bresnahan made eight saves.

Westfield out-shot WestConn 28-20 on the evening.  The Owls are now 6-4 on the season and will return to  the conference portion of the schedule by hosting Bridgewater State at 12:00 noon on Saturday at Alumni Field.

WestConn slips to 5-5 on the season with the loss.
