Owls Lacrosse Marches Past Saints, 18-7 in Panama Beach, Fla.

WESTFIELD, Mass. –    Westfield State ran out to an 11-0 first-half lead as the Owls marched past Marymount (Va.) University 18-7 in the Spring Fling at Publix Sports Park in Panama Beach, Fla.

Westfield improves to 3-0 on the season, while the Saints drop to 4-3.

The Owls led 8-0 at the end of the first quarter and boosted the lead to 11-0 before the Saints climbed on the scoreboard with 5:45 left in the first half.

Cassidy Connolly (Woburn, Mass.) and Cassidy Harvey (Niskayuna, N.Y.) each tallied three times in the first quarter as the Owls posted the big first quarter.

Harvey led the Owls in scoring with five goals and three assists.  Emma Cretella (Cheshire, Conn./St. Pul Catholic)) added four goals and an assist, and Connolly finished wth three golas and an assist.  Emma Prattson (Tolland, Conn.) scored a goal and handed out three assists on the day.

Sydney Smith (Dalton, Mass./Wahconah) made three saves in goal for the Owls to earn the win.

Marymount was led two goals and an assist from Taylor Chepren.  Hannah Smith made eight saves in net for the Saints.

The Owls held a 27-17 advantage in shots, and a 26-17 edge in ground balls.  Marymount did their best work in the center circle where they had an 18-9 margin in draw controls.

Westfield is schedule to play #25-ranked SUNY-Geneseo at Panama Beach on Thursday to complete the spring trip.
