Women's Lacrosse Begins MASCAC Title Defense Against Bridgewater Saturday Night

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Women's Lacrosse aims to snap a four-game losing streak on Saturday at 7 PM against Bridgewater State on Alumni Field. 

Westfield State stands at 3-5 on the season entering their first Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup of the year versus the Bears. Two of the Owls losses have come against top 20 ranked opponents, falling to #19 Amherst College and #20 Bowdoin College. Bridgewater has a record of 4-4, earning consecutive victories over Wellesley College and Southern Maine. In the MASCAC women's lacrosse preseason poll, Westfield was voted as the favorites to win the conference championship, Bridgewater State placed fourth in the poll. 

Emma Cretella (Cheshire, Conn.), the Owls point leader with 19 goals and three assists, recorded a hat trick in Westfield's 10-9 loss against Springfield College. Nicole Rinkus (Pembroke, Mass.) trails Cretella by just one goal, recording 21 points on the year. Natalie DeMaio (Westwood, Mass.) and Cassidy Harvey (Niskayuna, N.Y.) have posted identical stat lines, with 16 goals and one assist apiece. 

Bridgewater State's leading goal scorer Delaney Langton (Scituate, RI) has 19 points on the season, notching seven points in their last two contests. Nina Liquori (Agawam, Mass.) has been equally effective, netting 14 goals with four assists, and a shooting percentage of 58.3%. Jacqueline DeLorey (Westwood, MA) has 15 points, with a team-leading 10 assists for the Bears. 

After this matchup Westfield has four days off before hosting Wheaton College at 7 PM on Wednesday, April 6th at Alumni Field.
