Lambert's OT Goal Lifts Owls Over Keene, 13-12

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State's Sydney Lambert (Hanover, Mass.) scored the game winner 1:52 into overtime to give the Owls a 13-12 win over Keene State in a non-conference women's lacrosse game at Alumni Field on Tuesday night.

Lambert scooped up a loose ball in the center of the fan and deposited it in the back of the net for the game winner.

Westfield State moves to 6-0 on the season, while Keene falls to 1-6.

The game see-sawed back and forth throughout the evening. Westfield jumped up to a 4-0 lead in the early going, capped by Hunter Zackaricz's (Northampton/Southampton, Mass.) free position goal with 14:04 left in the first half.

Keene State responded with a 4-goal run of their own, the first three on carbon copies as Gabby Smith (Laconia, N.H.) fed from behind the net to Chelsea Lewis (Londonderry, N.H.) for goals. The two teams went to the half tied at 6-6.

In the second half, Keene gained the upper hand, extending to a 12-9 lead with 9:21 left in regulation on Lewis' sixth goal of the game, as Taylor Farland (Tantasqua/Fiskdale, Mass.) fed from the top of the fan to Lewis who wheeled and fired a high shot.

Westfield closed regulation with three straight goals, all on free position attempts, the last from Marissa Nimeskern (Hanover, Mass.) with 3:37 to play that forced the extra session.

Westfield State goalkeeper Maria Woodall (King Phillip/Northfield, Mass.) made seven saves in earning the win, while Anna O'Brien (Winchester, Mass.) stopped nine shots for Keene.

Alexa Tonelli (Shrewsbury, Mass.) led Westfield with five goals. Lambert added three. For Keene, Farland finished with two goals and three assists, while Tori Weinstock (Brookfield, Conn.) added a pair of goals.

Westfield's 6-0 start is the best in program history. The Owls will look to extend that mark when they host Emerson on March 28.
