Lambert Lifts Owls Past Lions, 15-5


WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State University's junior Sydney Lambert (Hanover, Mass.) scored four goals to help lift the Owls past Emerson College in a women's lacrosse non-conference game at Alumni Field Wednesday night.

The Owls improve to 7-0 on the season while the Lions are now 0-6 overall.

Westfield State jumped to a 5-2 lead in the early going, capped by Lambert's first goal of the night with 15:50 left in the first half.

Emerson's senior Tara Windsor (Palm City, Fla.) responded with a goal of her own at 15:12 to make it 5-3.

Westfield State held an 8-3 lead to end the first half.

The Lyons opened the second half with a goal from Windsor before the Owls went on a 7-1 run to secure the 15-5 victory.

Westfield State's senior Samantha Coyle (Weymouth, Mass.) and senior Hunter Zackaricz (Southampton, Mass. / Northampton) scored two goals apiece.

Windsor led the Lions with three goals while freshman teammate Kelli Mark (Hermosa Beach, Cali.) found the back of the net twice.

For the game, Westfield State held a 45-15 advantage in shots and also had the advantage in ground balls, 26-11.

Owl's junior goalkeeper Maria Woodall (Norfolk, Mass. / King Philip) played the first 55 minutes in net for the Owls and made five saves while freshman Emma Duffy (Braintree, Mass.) played the final five minutes and made no saves.

Senior goalkeeper Kristina Modica (East Moriches, N.Y.) made an exceptional 21 saves in net for the Lions.

The Owls will host Fitchburg State University on Saturday, March 31st in their first MASCAC game of the season starting at noon.

Emerson College will host the United States Coast Guard on March 31st at 10:30 a.m.
