Lacrosse Set for MASCAC Championship Game

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Top-seeded Westfield State is set to host #2 Framingham State in the championship game of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic conference women's lacrosse tournament at Alumni Field on Saturday, May 5 at 3:00 p.m.

Westfield earned the #1 seed by virtue of a perfect 7-0 record in the league and are currently 16-2 overall, setting a school record for wins in a season.

Framingham State enters the championship game with an overall record of 16-2 and 6-1 in the MASCAC.

Owls' offense will be led by junior midfielder Sydney Lambert (Hanover, Mass.) who leads the team with 51 points on 46 goals and five assists. Lambert also plays a key role in the Owls possessions with 50 draw controls this season.

Another pair of juniors in attacker Alexa Tonelli (Shrewsbury, Mass) (36-1-37) and midfielder Marissa Nimeskern (Hanover, Mass.) (20-8-28) add punch to the Owls offense. Tonelli has 27 ground balls and nine free position goals on the season while Nimeskern totals 48 draw controls and eight free position goals.

Defensively, the Owls are backstopped by junior goalkeeper Maria Woodall (Norfolk, Mass. / King Philip), who has started in all 18 games this season. Woodall has recorded an 8.15 GAA, stopping 167 shots on goal for a .56 save percentage and leads the MASCAC in both GAA and save percentage.

Junior defender Caroline Arket (Poughquag, N.Y. / Arlington) leads the team with 33 ground balls and has caused 23 turnovers.

Framingham State has been led by sophomore attacker Grace Gamache (Dartmouth, Mass.) and leads the MASCAC 109 points this year on 54 goals and 55 assists. Senior Kimberly Foley (Mansfield, Mass.) (44-33-77), freshman Alissa Marino (Trumbull, Conn.) (41-10-51), and sophomore Nicole Pacheco (Woburn, Mass.) (34-16-50).

Junior goalkeeper Indigo Fox Tree-McGrath (Bedford, Mass.) has started every game for the Rams this season, making 109 saves on the season with an 8.57 GAA and a 46.0 save percentage.

Westfield State defeated the Rams, 12-8 in the regular-season meeting this year at home on April 17. Tonelli scored a game-high six goals to clinch the win for the Owls.

The winner receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Owls will be looking for their second-straight league title, after defeating Bridgewater State 15-5 in last year's title game.

Tickets for Saturday's contest will be $6 for adults, $3 for students and $3 for senior citizens. College students with an ID, WSU faculty and staff, and children ages 12 and under are free.
