Lacrosse Rolls Past Rams, 12-8


WESTFIELD, Mass. - Junior attacker Alexa Tonelli (Shrewsbury, Mass.) scored six goals to lead Westfield State University's women's lacrosse team to a 12-8 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference win over Framingham State University at Alumni Field Tuesday night.

The Owls improve to 12-2 on the season and 4-0 in the MASCAC while the Rams are now 11-2 overall and 3-1 in league play.

After some back and forth action to start the period, Westfield State grabbed an 8-5 lead at the half that was capped off by back to back unassisted goals from Tonelli at 3:02 and 1:57.

Framingham State's sophomore Grace Gamache (Dartmouth, Mass.) responded just a minute and a half into the second period with her second goal of the night to make it 8-6. Senior teammate Kimmy Foley (Mansfield, Mass.) found the back of the net at 21:14 to decrease the Owls' lead by one.

Westfield State's junior Sydney Lambert (Hanover, Mass.) and Tonelli responded with back to back goals almost three minutes apart from each other to extend their lead by three.

The back and forth action continued throughout the second half as Rams' freshman Hannah McMahon (Watertown, Mass.) scored one of her own with 10:16 left in the half to make it a two point game.

Tonelli secured the lead with back to back goals at 8:11 and 1:27 to help the Owls clinch the 12-8 MASCAC victory.

Owls' junior Marissa Nimeskern (Hanover, Mass.) scored two goals and added an assist while Lambert added two goals of her own.

Framingham was led by two goals each from sophomore Nicole Pacheco (Woburn, Mass.), Gamache, and freshman Alissa Marino (Trumbull, Conn.).

Junior goalkeeper Maria Woodall (Norfolk, Mass. / King Philip) made 15 saves in net for the Owls while junior goalkeeper Indigo Fox Tree-McGrath (Bedford, Mass.) made 15 saves in the loss.

The Owls held a slim 27-23 edge in shots on goal and had a 23-20 advantage in ground balls.

Westfield State will travel to Worcester State on Saturday, April 21st for a MASCAC game at 11:00 a.m.

Framingham State will host Salem State on the same day for a conference match at 12:00 p.m.
