Women's Golf Places Sixth at Empire 8 Championships

Westfield State finished in 6th place at the Empire 8 Women's Golf Championships at the Ballston Spa Country Club in Ballston Spa, N.Y., on Saturday and Sunday.

Bailey Loughlin fired the low score for the Owls with back to back rounds of 93 for a two-day total of 186, finishing in 17th place in the individual standings.

Cortland State's Danielle Bambola was the medalist with 74-74-148, leading the Red Dragons to the team title with a team score of 667.  Suffolk University was second with 731, while Johnson and Wales was third with 762.

The Owls were sixth among the 11 scoring teams with a two-day total of 782. Westfield State senior Kyla Murphy shot 96-98-194 to finish 20th.  Freshman Makenze Felty placed 23rd with 95-100-195.

The Owls were in fourth place after Day 1 of the tournament, but slipped back two places on Sunday as cold, rainy and windy conditions blew into Upstate New York early in the round.  The Owls compete as an affiliate member of the Empire 8 for women's golf.
