WESTFIELD, MA – After a historic week, Westfield State junior forward Melissa Gray (Peabody, Mass) was named both the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week sponsored by GEICO, but the New England Women's Basketball Association Player of the Week.

In a 3-0 week for the Owls, Gray averaged 26.7 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and 2.3 assists while shooting 52 percent from the field.

Gray started the week with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds in an 88-55 win at Worcester State.

Gray followed that game with a career-high 37 points, including a school-record and NCAA Division III season-high 10 three-pointers, along with seven rebounds, five assists, and five steals in the Owls' 106-76 victory over Fitchburg State. In that same game, Gray scored her 1,000th career point, becoming the 18th player in Owls' women's basketball history to achieve that feat.

Gray then ended the week with a 29-point performance in a 111-108 win at Bridgewater State.

For the season, Gray currently averages a conference-high 18.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.9 steals per game, which leads all eligible Division III players.

The Owls are currently 6-10 with a conference record of 3-1 this season. Next up for the Owls is a nonconference home game against Connecticut College on Wednesday, January 22 at 7:00 P.M.
