Kierra McCarthy earns Player of the Week

Westfield State University's junior guard Kierra McCarthy (Ludlow, Mass) earned the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference player of the week honors after receiving the MASCAC tournament MVP. She averaging 14 points, five rebounds, an assist and a steal during the MASCAC Women's Basketball Tournament.

McCarthy scored 13 points and recorded three rebounds in the 105-80 semifinal win over Worcester State. She went on to score 15 points to help push the Owls past Framingham State in the 90-75 championship win. She also added seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

McCarthy averaged 12.8 points per game; five rebounds per game and has recorded 71 steals on the season.

She was also named to the New England Women's Basketball Association's weekly honor roll.

Westfield's freshman forward Melissa Gray (Peabody, Mass) received the MASCAC rookie of the week after averaging 13 points, five rebounds, and two steals during the Owls championship run.

Gray scored 18 points and three steals to help lead the Owls to a victory over Worcester State in the semifinal game. She also put up nine points and eight rebounds in Westfield's title win over Framingham. She averaged 10.3 points per game on 45 made three point field goals.
