WESTFIELD, Mass.  –   Westfield State junior softball pitcher Gianna Conte (Greenfield, Mass.) was named as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference pitcher of the week for the week ending March 17.

Conte helped the Owls to a 6-4 record on the spring trip to Naples, Fla. by finishing the week with a 3-1 record in the pitching circle.  Conte made six appearances, starting three games.  She picked up wins over St. Joseph (Conn.) and Lesley (Mass.) before coming out of the bullpen to garner the win with 3.1 innings of shutout relief against Alfred (NY) State.

She finished the week with a 3.55 ERA in 22 innings pitched, scattering 24 hits and striking out nine.

Conte and the Owls will be back in action this week with a pair of doubleheaders on the road, at Skidmore on Wednesday and Gordon College on Saturday.
