WORCESTER, Mass. - The second-seeded Rams of Framingham State and the third-seeded Owls of Westfield State will advance to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference championship as the Rams shutout the top seeded Lancers of Worcester State 5-0 to advance, and the Owls edged the Lancers in the final game of the day to eliminate the hosts from the tournament.

GAME ONE: #3 Westfield State 2, #4 Bridgewater State 1

Westfield State earned the first win of the day as they eliminated Bridgewater State from the tournament with a walk-off sacrifice fly from pinch hitter Kayla Soucie (North Easton, Mass.).

Westfield State was the first to reach the board on the day as Maddy Atkocaitis (Westfield, Mass.) hit an RBI single to right field for the 1-0 gain.

Following a scoreless second and third innings, Bridgewater State knotted the score at 1-1 in the top of the fourth on four hits. Meghan Navarro (Taunton, Mass.) led off the inning with a double to left field, and advanced to third on a Shannon Grindle (Halifax, Mass.) single to right field. Jenny Heller (Taunton, Mass.) came up next and plated Navarro on a single to centerfield.

The Bears loaded the bases with a Courtney Gouvia (Taunton, Mass.) single to right center, but Westfield's starting pitcher, Emily Arredondo (Woburn, Mass.) retired the side with a groundout and a lineout to second base.

The score remained tied at 1-1 until the bottom of the seventh when the Owls plated the game-winning run on a walk-off sacrifice fly from Soucie. Back-to-back singles from Angelica Banning (East Granby, Conn.) and Michaela LeBlanc (Marblehead, Mass.) put runners at first and third.

Pinch runner Sarah Meunier (Deerfield, Mass.) stole second, and the sacrifice fly to shallow right field allotted Banning to sprint home and just slide by Bridgewater's catcher who was in the receiving the ball from her right fielder for the 2-1 win.

Bridgewater State's Grindle and Heller each batted 2-for-3 on the day. Navarro also recorded two hits with a double and scored the Bears' lone run.

Westfield State's Banning batted 2-for-3 with a run scored. The Owls' four other hits were scattered amongst four batters. Atkocaitis and Soucie logged the RBI for Westfield State.

Bridgewater State left seven batters stranded on the bases, while Westfield left three on.

Westfield's Emily Woodworth (Marlborough, Mass.) relieved Arredondo and earned the win in the circle with three innings pitched. She allowed three Bear hits in her appearance.

Bridgewater State's Natalie Sorrenti (Bridgewater, Mass.) suffered her fourth loss of the season in 6 2/3 innings pitched. She struck out two at the plate.

GAME THREE: #3 Westfield State 3, #1 Worcester State 2

The Owls of Westfield State overcame a two-run deficit in the final game of the day and scored three runs on five hits in the top of the fifth for a 3-2 edge over the Lancers. Worcester State was eliminated from the tournament with the setback.

Sydney Despres (Sterling, Mass.) gave the Lancers the lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI groundout to shortstop.

The Lancers added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Smith-Porter reached home on an Owl fielding error.

The fifth inning proved to be in the Owls favor as they plated three runs on five hits. Back-to-back singles from Maddie Keigwin (Sutton, Mass.) and Bri Tortora (Worcester, Mass.) and a sacrifice hit from Lindsay Cordopatri (Walpole, Mass.) put the runners in scoring position. Next up, Atkocaitis singled to left center to plate two runs. Another run came home on an RBI single from Banning for the 3-2 advantage.

Worcester State had a chance to match the run in the bottom of the fifth when they loaded the bases, but a foul out and shortstop kept Westfield State atop for good, 3-2.

Westfield State's Banning batted 2-for-3 with an RBI. Atkocaitis recorded a game-high two RBI.

Ennis was the batting leader for Worcester State, going 2-for-4 with one run scored.

Cordopatri and Kristen Huston (Spencer, Mass.) each recorded a stolen base for their team.

Westfield State's Arredondo earned the win in four innings pitched. Relief pitcher, Woodworth, earned the save in three innings pitched.

Worcester State's Rachel Frisch (Worcester, Mass.) was tabbed the loss in the complete-game. She allowed three runs on eight hits. She walked two batters and struck out four.

Framingham State and Westfield State will battle for the MASCAC tournament title tomorrow (May 6) at Rockwood Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 12 noon.
