Owls Blanked by Elms, 2-0

Westfield, Mass. – Elms College sophomore forward Musa Jiana (Birkama, Gambia) scored a pair of second half goals as the Blazers defeated Westfield State, 2-0, on a Wednesday night at Leary Field in Chicopee, Mass.

The Owls played the Blazers to a zero-zero draw after one half, but Jiana put Elms on the board just two and a half minutes into the second half on a feed from sophomore Dante Polletta (Prospect, Conn.). At the 54th minute, Jiana netted his team-leading eighth goal of the season to pad the lead for Elms.

Owls goalkeeper Griffin Brown (Southborough, Mass.) compiled nine saves and Collin Liedke (Newington, Conn.) stopped all four shots on net to preserve the shutout. Sophomore Coleby Andrade (Falmouth, Mass.) took a team high two shots for Westfield.

The Blazers out-shot the Owls 15-6 while also holding the advantage in shots on net (11-4). Elms also added four corner kicks to Westfield State's two.

Westfield State (4-11, 1-4 MASCAC) will return home for their final regular season home game as they host Fitchburg State on Senior Day on Saturday at noon from Alumni Field in Westfield, Mass. Elms College (6-9, 4-7 GNAC) will travel to Rhode Island College for their next match-up on Saturday.
