WESTFIELD, Mass. - Bridgewater State had four different goal scorers as the Bears posted a 5-0 win over Westfield State to spoil the Owls homecoming game.

Bridgewater got on the board early, just 2:18 into the match, as Joseph Madden, Jr.s corner kick was flicked on across the goalkeeper box to Jacob Ramos, who headed it home at the back post.

Bridgewater made it a 2-0 game about 10 minutes later, when the Bears fired a pair of rapid succession shots at Owls goalkeeper Emilo Mancuso.  Mancuso stopped the first two volleys, but the second rebound of a point-blank shot hit an Owls defender and bounced back into the net for an own goal.

David Halben, Will Nelson and Ethan Lafontant all added goal for the Bears, which improved to 5-8 and 3-2 in the MASCAC.

Westfield, which got 11 saves - several of the spectacular variety- from Mancuso in goal, slips to 4-10 and 1-4 in the MASCAC.

The Bears outshot the Owls 19-9.  William Russell made five saves for Bridgewater to preserve the shutout.

Westfield State recognized the family and teammates of Phil Anas '07 prior to the match, playing the game in memory of Anas, who passed away in January of 2021 after a long battle with brain cancer.  Anas was a Worcester native who was a key member of the Owls 2006 NCAA Tournament team.
