WESTFIELD, Mass. –   Eastern Connecticut State's Ashton Lewis (Fairfield, Conn.) shot a tournament-record 69 to earn medalist honors and lead the Warriors to the team title at Tekoa Country Club in Westfield, Mass. on Wednesday afternoon.

Lewis made three birdies - on the par-5 fourth and 14th, and on the par-4 eighth hole - and his lone bogey of the day was on the par-4 15th hole.   He hit his tee shot just left of the green on the 231-yard par-3 18th, and chipped and one-putted for par to secure the low round of the day and the tournament title.

Mitchell College's Shamus McLean (Groton, Conn.) was second at 1-over 72 and NVU-Johnson's Adiance Cheromiah (Laguna, New Mexico) and New England College's Timothy Carlson (Delmar, NY) finished in a tie for third at 74.

Westfield State was led by senior Kyle DelSignore (Attleboro, Mass.), who shot a 6-over 77, good for a tie for eighth. DelSignore's four birdies on the afternoon were tied for the most in the field with McLean.

Westfield's Ethan Cadorette (Swampscott, Mass.) and Mike Waldman (Billerica, Mass.) both shot 83 to finish in a tie for 23rd, and Josh Sears (East Longmeadow, Mass.) finished with a 94 to round out the Owls scoring four.

Fifty-four players competed as part of the 11-team field.

Eastern Connecticut finished with a team total of 303, followed by NVU-Johnson in second at 307 and New England College was third at 309.   Westfield State was sixth at 337.

Tekoa played at 6,438 yards for the par 71 course, a blended Donald Ross/Geoffrey Cornish designed course.

The Williamson tournament honors the memory of former Owls' golfer Brett Williamson '11, who captained the Owls first team when the sport was returned to varsity status in 2008, and passed away in 2017 after a long battle with Cystic Fibrosis.

Westfield State will be in action on Sunday and Monday at the 2022 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship at Shennecosseyt Golf Club in Groton, Conn.    Mitchell College is the host of the 2-day, 36-hole event.
