Ervin Wins Individual Title As Owls Take R.I.C Invitational Team Title

 WESTFIELD, Mass.  – Westfield State senior Chris Ervin (North Chelmsford, Mass.) carded a 3-over par 75 to earn co-medalist honors and lead the Owls to the team title at the Rhode Island College Invitational at the Valley Country Club in Warwick, R.I. on Friday.

Westfield took the team title by one stroke over both Salem State and Springfield College. With the Owls scoring quartet posting a team total of 316.  Roger Williams was fourth, two strokes back of the Owls in the 12-team field.

Mike Waldman (Billerica) finished in a tie for 7th with a 77, Kyle DelSignore (Attleboro, Mass.) was T13 with a 79 and sophomore Brandon Smith (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) finished tied for 26th with an 85.   JJ Newcombe (Bellingham, Mass./Blackstone Valley) completed the Owls lineup in a tie for 45th.

For Ervin, the win is his first collegiate title.  The Owls have finished in the top four in each tournament they have played in the 2021-22 season, picking up their first win of the season today in their spring opener.

The Owls have three more events scheduled for the spring, as they will play in the Rich Korzec Memorial tournament at Blackstone National on Tuesday, April 19, before returning to Westfield to host the Westfield State Spring Invitational at Tekoa Country Club on April 26.
