Golf Lances Worcester State, 331-321 in Dual

SUTTON, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's golf team fell to Westfield State University by 10 strokes in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference dual match Friday at Blackstone National Golf Club. Worcester State shot a team score of 331, while Westfield State recorded a score of 321.

Worcester State was led by graduate student Connor Anderson (Raynham, Mass.), who earned co-medalist honors with a score of six-over 78, matching the score of Westfield's J.J. Newcombe. Lancer junior Henry Bruckner (Franklin, Mass.) turned in a score of 79, which was also matched by Owl junior Kyle DelSignore.

Westfield State's Michael Waldman and Matteo Godek turned in identical scores of 82 to help the Owls take the team title. Rounding out Worcester State's team scores were junior Jake Poitras (Harwich, Mass.) with an 84 and senior Mark Clemente (Holden, Mass.) with a 90. First-year Patrick Rennie (Bridgewater, Mass.) turned in a 97 to round out Worcester State's scores.

Each team also had three players competing as individuals on the day. Worcester State's Cam Neary (Mansfield, Mass.) shot the low round of the individuals, shooting an 88, while Lancers Will Sjogren (Auburn, Mass.) carded a 94 and Max Joyner (Great Barrington, Mass.) recorded a 96.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday for another MASCAC dual match. First tee times from Tekoa Country Club are set for 11 a.m.
