Omot's 25 Helps Owls Torpedo Coast Guard 86-72

WESTFIELD, Mass.  -  Juju Omot scored 25 points to lead Westfield State in scoring for the second straight game, as the Owls topped the US Coast Guard Academy, 86-72 on the second day of the Cadet-Mariner Classis at the Alumni Gym at the Academy at New London, Conn. on Saturday.

Westfield finishes 2-0 in the classic, and moves to 4-1 overall this season.

Omot, junior college transfer, shot 7-11 from the floor, and 4-4 from behind the arc. He was 7-8 at the foul line to help seal the win and added 10 rebounds, six assists and five steals.

Westfield State trailed 38-37 at the half, but the Owls opened the second half with a 14-3 run to take control of the game with a 51-41 lead on an Omot layup with 16:30 left in the game.

The Bears trimmed the Westfield lead down to as few as seven points, 66-59, on an Adrian Herren four-point play with 4:58 to play in the game, but Westfield scored three layups in the next minute and a half to extend the lead.

Westfield had five players score in double figures in the win.  Brendan Keaveny added 14 on 4-5 shooting from behind the arc, Lid Moreland contributed 13 points, Brendon Hamilton added 12 points and nine rebounds, and Jerome Stephens finished with 11 points.

Coast Guard (3-1) got 17 points from Mitch Settles and 16 from Declan Rooney.

Westfield State will get a break for thanksgiving before returning to play at Clark on Dec. 2.
