NEWBA Honors for Moussette, Gray

Westfield, Mass. -- The postseason honors continued for the Westfield State women's basketball team with the announcement of the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) All-Region Team and Senior All- Star classic lineup. 

Westfield State senior point guard Chelsea Moussette (Southampton, Mass.) will be joining twenty other talented seniors from various New England Division three teams in the NEWBA Senior All Star Game. The group will be coached by Jill Pace of Tufts University and Walter Paschal of Framingham State University.  (UPDATE: the NEWBA Senior All-Star game scheduled for March 28, 2020 is canceled due to the COVID-19 crisis).

Mousette was recently named MASCAC First All-Conference, ranked first in the conference for assists (6.7 per game) and seventh for 3-pointers per game, while she averaged at 11.8 points per game.  Moussette ranked fifth in the nation in assists per game, and 12th in steals per game (3.58) and 12th in assist to turnover ratio (2.31-1).

Junior forward Melissa Gray (Peabody, Mass) was named on the NEWBA All- Region third team, after also being named for the MASCAC First All- Conference team. Gray averaged at 21 points per game was first in the conference for points per game, three-pointers per game, and field goals per game.  Gray led the nation in steals, at 4.54 per game, and in three pointers per game, with 3.96. 

Westfield finished the season with a 13-13 overall record and a 10-2 mark and in second place in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference.  The Owls finished second in the nation in scoring at 84.8 points per game.  The Owls led the nation in three-point field goals per game, steals per game, turnover margin and turnovers forced.
