Field Hockey Named to National Academic Squad

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Sixteen Westfield State field hockey players were recognized on February 10th as members of the NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad for their outstanding academic performance.

The National Field Hockey Coaches Association honors student-athletes who achieve a 3.3 GPA or higher during their first semester of the current academic year. Over 2,300 student-athletes from 161 division III programs were named to the National Academic Squad.

16 of the 24 Westfield State field hockey players made the list, with 67% of the team holding a GPA of 3.3 or higher for the semester. John Hopkins University led all institutions with 31 student-athletes featured on the list.

Cheryl Latona (Granby, Conn.), Lindsey Spindel (Mendon, Mass.), and Riley Goulet (Marion, Mass.) have all been honorees through each of their four years at Westfield State.

Other members of the team include the following: Lauren Champiny (Somers, Conn.), Jordan Conrad (Worcester, Mass.), Taylor Creech (Kennebunk, ME), Molly Finnegan (Westport, Mass.), Bre Foley (South Hadley, Mass.), Emily Martin (Southwick, Mass.), Kelsi McDevitt (Gilbertsville, PA), Corryn Moroney (South Hadley, Mass.), Madison Ouellette (Uxbridge, Mass.), Paige Reisman (Milford, Mass.), Shannon Roycroft (Barnstable, Mass.), and Lily Spencer (South Deerfield, Mass.).

The National Academic Team Award is one of three awards that has yet to be announced. This recognizes programs that earn a GPA of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester, and as a team, Field Hockey holds a 3.28 GPA for both their cumulative and fall semester average.
