WESTFIELD, Mass. - The Westfield State football team secured their first win of the season over Massachusetts Maritime, 17-10, led by the outstanding performances from Max Margeson (Littleton, Colo.) and Cooper Harvey (Niskayuna, N.Y.), this week's Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week.

Margeson was named the MASCAC Defensive Player of the Week after his performance in the 17-10 win against Massachusetts Maritime. The senior defensive back notched two tackles and a crucial pass breakup, which led to an interception by teammate linebacker Alec Rodriguez (Westfield, Mass.). Rodriguez was tripped up on the return after a few yards and lateraled the ball back to a ready Margeson who went 30 yards for the Owls' game-winning touchdown.

Harvey was named the MASCAC Rookie of the Week. The freshman kicker nailed his first collegiate field goal (39 yards) along with two PATs in the win over Massachusetts Maritime, making him a perfect 3/3 on the day.

The Owls, who will be on a bye this upcoming week, will look to build on this win and improve their record against UMass Dartmouth on Homecoming Weekend on Saturday, October 14 for a 2:00 PM start time at Alumni Field.
